Alland Lamour, of the Dessaix Baptiste Music School in Jacmel, Haiti, is shown here during his recent visit to the United States holding a wonderful donation from J. L. Smith Winds - flute and clarinet pads. Many, many thanks to J. L. Smith for their generosity!
Alland Lamour, sax player, teacher and secretary at the Dessaix-Baptiste Music School in Jacmel, Haiti, is delighted to see the arrival of four boxes of music donated by J.W. Pepper. These boxes are just the tip of the iceberg - many more were sent directly to representatives of various music schools in Haiti and, eventually, will help build music libraries all over the country. The boxes shown here contain music for choir, band, string orchestra, full orchestra, jazz band and solos and chamber music for a wide range of instruments - a marvelous donation! The music will get to Haiti this summer in time for some of the many summer camps. Our thanks to J.W. Pepper for their generosity and to board member Jordan King for facilitating this gift.
You may recall in one of our last blog posts that Stringworks, a family-owned string shop in Appleton, WI, generously donated a new cello to BLUME Haiti. We are happy to announce that it arrived safely. Board member Carolyn Armstrong delivered it into the hands of Pierre Jean Jeoboham, the director of the Fondation Sainte Cecile Ecole de Musique in La Plain, Haiti. He was very happy to receive it as the school has few cellos in playing condition. Fondation Sainte Cecile has a chamber orchestra, wind ensemble, and also a Symphonic Orchestra. Thank you to Stringworks for supporting this deserving school!
