![]() BLUME Haiti co-founder and President Janet Anthony was featured in The Appleton Post Crescent, with a special focus on the upcoming National Orchestra Institute, first of its kind in Haiti. The institute is a collaboration with musicians from the Utah Symphony. "APPLETON - "It started out by accident. It was a dark and snowy and cold winter's night," begins Janet Anthony, telling a story that sounds like it's headed miles away from where it's really going. "There was a little ad in Strings magazine, which is a trade publication for string players ... an ad for a cello teacher for a music festival in Port-au-Prince."I speak French ... I love to travel. I thought, what the heck, I'll give it a try." Give it a try she did. Fast-forward more than 20 years and the Lawrence University music professor has been to Haiti every year since 1996. The impact of those trips, which grew to include more and more students and educators over the years and led to the founding of a nonprofit five years ago, has become immeasurable."
