Cool Jazz Trio
Founded in 2019, the Cool Jazz Trio consists of Melchicedek Luxama (piano), Mardochée Luxama (bass) and Dieunel Celestin (percussion). They love to play Smooth Jazz, Swing, Ballafes, Gospel, Vodou Jazz and more! Well known in the south of Haiti, they are in demand in Jacmel and beyond. All three members of the trio got their start in music at Jacmel’s famed Dessaix-Baptiste Music School (DBMS) and two now teach in the program.
Melki, pianist and leader of the trio, was born in Port-au-Prince but has lived in Jacmel for the past 20 years. He initially studied flute and bass at EBMS and now is a member of the piano faculty at the school.
Mardochée, Melki’s younger brother, is the bassist of the trio. He started out playing trombone but soon switched to acoustic and electric bass at DBMS
Dieunel, also known as Saga, is the drummer of the group. He began as a student at DBMS and now is one of the percussion teachers there.
On Valentine’s Day, the Cool Jazz trio presented a special concert with love as the focus!
