From July 1-25 oboe students from across Haiti will participate in Haiti’s first International Oboe workshop. Funded by generous support from BLUME Haiti and Youth Orchestra of the Americas (YOA), 14 young oboists will have the chance to work with faculty from the United States and Brazil. The workshop will start with Ramon Thiago at the Cemuchca Institute of Music’s annual summer camp, held this year in Terrier Rouge in the north of Haiti. Then, Ramon and his students will make their way to Grand Goave for the Holy Trinity Music School summer camp. There, they will be joined first by James Hall of the Utah Symphony and, after Ramon returns to the states, Katelyn Simon will come in for the final week of the workshop. Students will work extensively on reed making (thanks to a very generous donation from DOUBLE REED GIRL) and on basic and advanced techniques.
