Ambassadors Music Institute (so called as its participants are called to be "ambassadors" of Jesus) has always had a special place in my heart. Located in middle-class Croix-des-Bouquets, its student population nonetheless is overwhelmingly composed of students accepted despite the fact their families can't afford tuition. If only US music schools could match that commitment to access regardless of economic circumstances! In fact, about one third of the students don't have families....click here to read the full entry!
Cap Haitian is a city of deep history and wonderful beauty on Haiti’s northern coast. The city sits on the beautiful Caribbean sea and is surrounded by a dramatic backdrop of mountains inland. Although I had traveled to Haiti multiple times before this summer, this was my first visit to the country’s northern region and my first experience with the wonderful music school located in Cap Haitian...read more here
Reeds and strings and rosin, oh my! Many, many thanks to D'Addario Strings and Rico Reeds for their wonderfully generous donations. These will be given to music schools and students in summer camps starting next week.
Many thanks to Stringworks for these cellos - they will be in Haiti this summer ready to be used by eager musicians!
Thomas, a repair technician at the Dessaix-Baptiste Music School in Jacmel, is installing some of the pads donated by JLSmith - many thanks!
Alland Lamour, of the Dessaix Baptiste Music School in Jacmel, Haiti, is shown here during his recent visit to the United States holding a wonderful donation from J. L. Smith Winds - flute and clarinet pads. Many, many thanks to J. L. Smith for their generosity!
Alland Lamour, sax player, teacher and secretary at the Dessaix-Baptiste Music School in Jacmel, Haiti, is delighted to see the arrival of four boxes of music donated by J.W. Pepper. These boxes are just the tip of the iceberg - many more were sent directly to representatives of various music schools in Haiti and, eventually, will help build music libraries all over the country. The boxes shown here contain music for choir, band, string orchestra, full orchestra, jazz band and solos and chamber music for a wide range of instruments - a marvelous donation! The music will get to Haiti this summer in time for some of the many summer camps. Our thanks to J.W. Pepper for their generosity and to board member Jordan King for facilitating this gift.
You may recall in one of our last blog posts that Stringworks, a family-owned string shop in Appleton, WI, generously donated a new cello to BLUME Haiti. We are happy to announce that it arrived safely. Board member Carolyn Armstrong delivered it into the hands of Pierre Jean Jeoboham, the director of the Fondation Sainte Cecile Ecole de Musique in La Plain, Haiti. He was very happy to receive it as the school has few cellos in playing condition. Fondation Sainte Cecile has a chamber orchestra, wind ensemble, and also a Symphonic Orchestra. Thank you to Stringworks for supporting this deserving school!
We received 5 requests within 12 hours of launching our request for support page! Wow!! We've already met to discuss what we received and look forward to helping music schools across Haiti get the supplies, training, and personnel they need.
