INAMUH

National Institute of Art and Music

INAMUH (Institut National de Musique d’Haiti) is part of a national plan to develop music education in Haiti. Inspired by, and based on, the El Sistema model, the centerpiece of the program is located in Pandiassou, just outside of Hinche in the Central Plateau region. Eventually, there will be four core programs in different regions of the country. Currently, there are 675 students age 3-24 in regular classes. All orchestral instruments are taught and the students either sing in one of the choirs, play in the band or in the string/full orchestra.

The teachers come mainly from Port-au-Prince and work with their students every weekend. There is a very successful summer camp program and the school offers regular concerts throughout the year.

Check out this article about the school in the Caribbean Journal.
